Our Journey

Some people thought that I was ‘lucky’ to be a Dietitian when my daughter was diagnosed with multiple food allergies. After all, I had valuable learnings from a Masters degree and a decade of clinical experience. But the reality was, none of that prepared me for such a life challenge.

Our family journey began months before the word, anaphylaxis came into the picture. At three months of age, patches of dry skin began appearing on her body. It soon developed into an unbearable itch, exacerbated by intensely scratching her bleeding skin. Her eczema became so severe that it required a rigorous skin regime of wet dressings, bleach baths, topical steroids and antibiotics for infected wounds.

Heartbroken, overwhelmed and extremely sleep deprived, we struggled on the flare-up cycle, knowing that these measures only offered short-term relief.

What came next was the progression from eczema to food allergies; known in the medical world  as the ‘Atopic March’.

As a Dietitian… I was aware that around 30% of babies with eczema will, unfortunately, develop a food allergy and naturally approached the introduction of solids with trepidation.

That fear became a reality the morning of her first allergic reaction to egg. A fear that we re-lived over and over, after multiple allergic reactions to various foods.

Desperate to take control, I used my expertise in functional nutrition to investigate underlying dietary and environmental triggers for her eczema. Through tailored elimination protocols and  strategies aimed at strengthening the immune system, our family began the journey of healing our daughter from the inside out.

Exercising patience and persistence, significant progress resulted and she finally broke free from the eczema flare-up cycle — goodbye steroids, dressings and uncomfortable baths!

So, here I am aligning my most significant purpose in life as a mother, with my passion for nutrition and using food as medicine.

Offering tailored services that focus on practical strategies to achieve nutritional adequacy and build a healthy relationship with food. Above all, creating a platform that develops understanding  about the challenges that come with navigating life with food allergies, eczema and digestive disorders.
